Musculoskeletal ultrasonography is a very powerful diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of a wide array of foot and ankle problems such tendinosis, tenosynovitis, rupture, dislocation, ligaments that are commonly torn, plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma and plantar plate injury.
Sports and overuse injuries of the foot and ankle are common. Ultrasound has been established as an excellent diagnostic modality for muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissue pathologies. It provides a rapid non-invasive and cost-effective examination tool to patients with acute or chronic pain or problems.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound scan of the foot and ankle is performed to diagnose patients with:
- Pain
- Reduced Movement
- Tear
- Inflammation
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Plantar Fibroma
- Heel spurs
- Morton’s Neuroma
- Foreign bodies
- Soft tissue masses such as ganglia, lipomas
- Bursitis or capsulitis of the joints
- Classification of a mass eg solid, cystic or mixed
- Ligament injuries
- Tendonitis or tendon tears
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- Muscular damage (chronic and acute)
- Joint effusions
- Vascular pathology
